Questions & Answers

Everything you want to know about your days

We've answered the most common questions about our calculator, the numbers it shows, and how to use this tool to live more intentionally.

About the Calculator

Our calculator takes your birth date and compares it against the World Health Organization's global average life expectancy of 72.98 years. It then calculates the estimated number of years, months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes remaining based on that average.

All calculations happen instantly in your browser — we never store or transmit your birth date anywhere.

No — and this is important. These numbers are estimates based on global averages, not predictions about your personal lifespan. Many people live well beyond the average, and many factors influence individual longevity including genetics, lifestyle, healthcare access, and more.

This tool is designed purely as a motivational mirror — a way to reflect on the value of time, not to predict or forecast your death. Please do not use these numbers for any medical or insurance purpose.

We use the WHO global average life expectancy of 72.98 years, which represents the average across all countries and all people worldwide. This is a combined global figure and does not account for your specific country, lifestyle, or health conditions.

In wealthier countries with strong healthcare systems, average life expectancy is often 78–83 years. In others it may be lower. We use the global figure to keep the tool simple and universal.

Absolutely not. Your birth date is entered locally in your browser and used only to perform the calculation on your device. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share your birth date or any personal information with anyone.

You can verify this by checking our Privacy Policy.

We actually encourage you to visit often. Not to dwell on the numbers, but to use them as a regular check-in with yourself. Life gets busy and we lose perspective quickly. Coming back monthly — or even weekly — keeps you connected to what matters and serves as a gentle reminder to spend your time with intention.

Think of it like a mindfulness practice. The more regularly you reflect, the more consistently you act with purpose.

Living with Purpose

It might feel that way at first — but research in psychology actually shows the opposite. Awareness of our mortality, when approached with openness rather than fear, consistently leads to greater happiness, stronger relationships, and more meaningful choices. This phenomenon is well-documented and is sometimes called "mortality salience."

The goal of this site is never to make you feel anxious or sad. It is to remind you that every day is a gift worth opening fully — and that the best response to a finite life is to live it as richly as possible.

Research from Harvard's 80-year Study of Adult Development — one of the longest studies of human happiness ever conducted — points to one clear answer: relationships. The quality of our close relationships is the single strongest predictor of health, happiness, and longevity.

Beyond that, movement, purpose, sleep, gratitude, and contribution to something larger than yourself all consistently show up in the research as cornerstones of a fulfilling life. Start with the people you love. Everything else follows.

It is never too late. The best time to start living intentionally was years ago. The second best time is right now. Every single day that you have left is an opportunity to begin again — to love better, to contribute more, to rest, to create, to connect.

The fact that you are here, asking this question, is itself a sign that something in you is ready to shift. Trust that. Start today. Start small. Start with one phone call, one walk, one honest conversation. That is enough to begin.

After you calculate your days, a share section appears with buttons to share directly via WhatsApp, X (Twitter), Facebook, or by copying the link. You can send it to a friend, a family member, or share it publicly on social media.

Many people find that sharing their number sparks a meaningful conversation about life, time, and priorities — the kind of conversation we don't have nearly enough of.
